THE ORIGIN OF HERMETICISM

THE ORIGIN OF HERMETICISM

When learning about esoteric knowledge, we rarely consider the origin of what we're learning. Where do concepts like "as above, so below" come from, or any occult knowledge for that matter?

While pinpointing the origin of all hermetic knowledge from every culture worldwide would be difficult, if not impossible, one stands out prominently in the history of humanity's spiritual development: Hermes Trismegistus, also known as Thoth, the Egyptian God of wisdom and scientific knowledge.

Whether or not he was an actual human being, an alien, or a true deity is not fully understood. However, he did leave behind a treasure trove of knowledge in the form of tablets that contain all manner of esoteric knowledge and secretes about humanity's origin and history.

The Emerald Tablets of Thoth and the hidden history of Atlantis have been shrouded in mystery for centuries. These tablets are believed to be ancient magical grimoires written for the sole purpose of raising the consciousness level of the reader. They are said to contain powerful knowledge and secrets about the universe and the hidden history of the lost continent of Atlantis. The Emerald Tablets are written in a special language known as the "language of the gods," which is a perfect form of communication that can be understood by anyone who reads it.

In some tablets, keys to unlocking magical abilities like astral travel or balancing the forces of life and death are explained in great detail. There are a multitude of perspectives you can have while reading and interpreting the information, which coincides with the “as above so below” axiom. What can be understood at one level of consciousness might be completely different on a higher or lower level.

While this story may sound out of this world, there are some similarities between Thoth's account of history and other spiritual texts, including details of a catastrophic flood that wiped out Atlantis.

The Atlantis story aside, Thoth and his Emerald Tablets may be the source of most of the world's esoteric knowledge. Regardless of whether you believe this to be true, it's clear that Thoth has left an indelible mark on the spiritual world. His teachings have been studied for centuries and continue to this day, influencing the way we think about the world, our place in it, and the unseen forces that shape our lives.
